To sum up what I have tried to say in the last three articles regarding women in ministry, I can’t say it better than J. Lee Grady, author of Ten Lies The Church Tells Women: “The gospel is good news for women. Yet, for centuries the church has insisted that the curse of subjection and degradation placed on Eve must forever remain on all women even though Christ redeemed them from the curse. Even in the twenty-first century, churches still preach that it is God’s will for women to remain in a perpetual second-class status. Though Jesus preached liberty to the captives, we have preached bondage. Fallen men have imposed their own gentler biases upon the Bible, and this action has resulted in gross mistranslation and mis-interpretation. Men have read their prejudices into the Scriptures and then codified these views as sacred religious precepts – when in fact they run totally contrary to the heart of the gospel. We say women can’t preach when, in fact, the Bible commands women to he Christ’s hold witnesses. We say women can’t prophecy, when the prophet Joel declared that they would and the apostle Paul gave specific instructions on how they should. We say women can’t lead the church when, in fact, the Bible gives numerous examples of Godly woman leaders. We are like the Pharisees, smug in our enlightened understanding of the Scriptures. They were the keepers of the Law, but became so entrenched in their own interpretations of the Bible that they didn’t recognize the incarnate Word of God when He stood in their midst.” My wife was called as a child to preach the gospel but was denied her calling due to man’s doctrines regarding women. She finally decided it was better to please God rather than man, and I’m proud of her for it. Think about it!
